There were already three individual solar arrays at the site prior to NWT surveying this site. The option that we proposed was a new 70kW installation, comprised of 270 individual REC 260W PV modules. We agreed upon the most appropriate way of achieving this with the managing agent and the owner.

Overview

The image below shows the split of modules across the different roof surfaces. There was an existing c. 4kW installation on the roof of the utility/office building. We proposed to reposition these panels and incorporate them within the same mounting structure as the new modules. Their approximate new position is highlighted below:

This project required some trenching in order to connect the systems together, and to make the connection with the existing electrical infrastructure to the south of the installation.

This trenching was performed using existing equipment at the site, by farm staff. The image below also shows the smaller trench necessary to connect the DC cables to the inverters, which were then mounted within the livestock building, in red.

The AC cable trench was deeper and ran down to the house, where the system was connected to the local distribution network:
